Best Love Quotes Vol. 1

Standard

My last blog asked the question, “What is love?” I shared my thoughts but I wanted to find out what others thought about love. Upon research, I discovered that each of us has our own unique perspective on love. Maybe it’s based on our  life experiences or what we have been taught by others, but love is  both a personal and shared experience. Below is a list of love quotes that I think really reflect the nuance of love.

Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love is a growing up.

What is Love?

Standard

What is love?  That is a question for the ages, and one that many have tried to answer through countless verse and thought, but can it really be answered?  Love is a lot like politics and religion, no one can agree on it.  Love means different things to different people, and there are various types.  There is physical love also known as sex; emotional love that can exist between humans and non-humans.  Is there anything more powerful than a mother’s love for her child, whether she as two legs or four? Emotional love is powerful and evokes deep sentiments and attachments.  And finally there is spiritual love that may be the most powerful love of all, because it comes from the soul and is our connection to a Higher Power.  It is love eternal and from it springs our love and compassion for nature, each other, and most importantly, self.  It is also our connection to the world around us. It is given freely, but we must make the choice to accept it or not.

I think one of the most beautiful and concise definitions (in my opinion) of what love is and isn’t can be found in the New Testament of the Christian Bible.  In 1 Corinthians, 13:4-8 (NIV), the Apostle Paul says,

“ Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…”

That aptly describes what love is, but let’s talk about what else love is not?  Love is never something to be taken lightly. We use the word too freely, and often use it to describe things and people that we really just “like.” Also, love doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t beat or bruise, and it doesn’t humiliate.  Love heals, respects, and encourages. Love is a teacher and teaches us some of life’s greatest lessons.

Have you ever been in love? What did it feel like?  For me it was indescribable!  The euphoria I felt was better than any drug.  When you’re in love, doesn’t everything look brighter and do you find that you can never spend enough time with the one you love? As Shakespeare said, parting is such sweet sorrow. That may be one of the few downsides to love, the longing you feel when you apart, and of course, when it ends.

Lastly, I can’t talk about love without talking about self-love.  If you love yourself then you expect nothing less than the best in yourself and in others.   Self-love inspires confidence and will not only help you to make the best choices in love but also in life. People who love themselves take care of themselves, respect themselves and others.  And even if you have no one to love, continue to love yourself, because love comes in many forms, and it may not always come when or how we want, but it comes.  Sometimes a person can be the giver or receiver of love. It can also come in the form of a thought or deed. There is an old saying that says the thoughts you put out in the universe are guaranteed to come back to you. If you want love, put it out there and expect it to come back via special delivery.

Love is you and you are love!!!  XOXO!!!
